It’s really about time the Mac gets a great game creation application. While Flash and Director can be used to create games, there’s now a much easier option for everyone that doesnt want to learn anything from scratch that is needed to make a game work. Power Game Factory from Sawblade Software let’s you create 2D sidescrolling action games in a very easy way. Some of the features:
- Non-repeating level backgrounds with multiple layers of parallax scrolling
- Realistic physics simulation including gravity, collisions, and particle dissipation
- Support for detailed, fluidly animated character graphics
- Customizable event-based game routines
- Colored lighting effects
- Animated QuickTime based cut screens
- 15 types of level objects including doors, switches, force fields, and animated scenery
- Message panes containing character dialog
As you see, everything you need is already there; you just have to create the graphics, the story and the levels. The demo of the application let’s you create one fully working level, so give it a try and if you like it as well, the full app is only $44. Oh and don’t forget to send me the games you’ve created.

hooray, now we’ll have dozens of mediocre games that are all very similar. I’ve never really seen any good games come out of these ‘game creation for idiots’ tools. people with good game creation skills are programming them directly.

What if you can create great graphics and you have an amazing idea for the level/story design, but you’re absolutely untalented when it comes to coding? Yeah, there will be many mediocre games, but if there’s just one that is worth to play, than this is already an amzing thing if you ask me.
