The future of the iPod

WiFi iPod

You know what? I couldn’t care less about the rumored video iPod everyone is expecting next week (Sept. 7). I don’t want my iPod to become bigger and video just isn’t a very useful feature on such a small device. Doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t add video support, it really can’t be that hard to implement after all and it would bring those additional giga bytes the new players will feature to some use, but the iPod is for music and I don’t think that will and should change anytime soon. What I hope for is a feature that could really build upon the whole portable music experience, WiFi!

A WiFi enabled iPod would make portable music sharing possible. You could let your friends listen to new songs you’ve got while at the same time listen to whatever you like. There would be no need to give your iPod away and sit there waiting to get your music back. Not only that, for example if you’re a musician, you could make a playlist with your own songs available (streamed) to everyone else close to you with an own WiFi iPod. While music should be the main focus of the WiFi feature, it doesn’t have to stop there. For example you could make photos of you available and maybe a personalized welcome message with some additional info about you … hey, if they really add video support, a short video of yourself and your iPod could become a real friend maker.

Sure, your battery wouldn’t last as long if WiFi is on, but personally I hardly ever use the full capacity anyway and you could always switch WiFi off, so do it Apple, do it and you’ve got a really happy customer … once more.

WiFi on the iPod would be awesome. I love the thought of wirelessly transmitting between iPods. Also, I would love to get that extra mileage out of my AirPort Express. I wrote a blog article about this that raises some other excellent uses for wireless.

To gain maximum knowledge of the network world, go for some online courses like N10-003 and SY0-101. You will easily be able to play with the wireless cable concept. It will not be hard to install a computer software without any instructions. Not only this, you will also be able to work on a remote pc software. Sounds too good? Bet it is!
