My PowerBook G4 is now 16 months old and the battery in it had to go through exactly 500 load cycles. Now I’m not guessing, that’s the exact number and no, I didn’t count them manually, of course OS X did that for me. There’s an application called coconutBattery that uses Apple’s CoreData technology to read out the data. CoreData was introduced with Tiger, so if you’re still using Panther, this app will not work for you, sorry.
Some additional stats: The original capacity of my battery was 4400 mAh and is now at 4024 mAh, that’s 91% of the original capacity. Right now as I’m writing this, the battery is 56% loaded or 2282 mAh. Acceptable I think, if not, please let me know about your own battery stats. Would be nice to have some numbers to compare with.

My stats:
PowerBook G4 age: 22 months
load cycles: 58
original capacity: 4200 mAh
current capacity: 2717 mAh, or 64% of original capacity.
Bummer. Guess I’ll try the total discharge procedure (again)…

Powerbook age: 24 months
Load cycles: 319
Original Capacity: 4200 mAh
Current Capacty: 2311 mAh (55% of original)
My battery sucks - I have had a short in my backlit keyboard that I havent had time to get fixed for months now, and it has contributed to the poor battery life on my Powerbook.

Not only coconutBattery can check those stats, but iTattle 1.6 also does! So, any one who doesn’t have Tiger yet and want to how about your own batt. stats, go get iTattle. It’s freeware and also it tells a lot of info about your machine!
