There are currently some rumors making the round about a Photoshop “killer” to be released at the next Apple show tomorrow. While I did a Google search to find out more, I’ve accidentally discovered a nice application that at least beats Photoshop at simulating paint on canvas.
The name of the app is ArtRage. The app provides a very realistic and fun simulation of using paint on canvas. Following tools are simulated: Oil Paint, Pencils, Crayons, Chalks, Felt Pens, Palette Knife and an Eraser. You can paint on four different kind of canvas/paper using your mouse, a graphic tablet or most likely the best way to use this if you have one, a tablet display. ArtRage is a painting simulation; so don’t expect tools like Fill, Cut/Paste or layers, because this really isn’t a Photoshop clone.
The application is completely free, so everyone with a passion for painting should definitely give this one a try. Maybe not exactly the same fun as painting on a real canvas, but it comes pretty close without the usual mess of using real paint.
