If there’s one Japanese philosophy that relates to the world of interface design and programming, then it is Wabi-Sabi:
Wabi-sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic. It is difficult to explain wabi-sabi in Western terms, but the aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, or incomplete. A concept derived from the Buddhist assertion of the first noble truth - Dukkha
Builders of wabi-sabi interfaces need to slow down, be patient, and look closely at what they’re doing. So don’t expect to increase your productivity with Wabi-Sabi, it may help you create better interfaces, it could make you a better person, but it will definitely not make your productivity focused boss happy.
