Google is currently on a run. Today Google Analytics finally started to show me some stats and as if that’s not enough to make me happy, Google Base just launched as well! So what is this “Base” you ask?
Google Base is a place where you can easily submit all types of online and offline content that we’ll host and make searchable online. You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle, Google Base and Google Local.
In other words, you can post things like course schedules, events, jobs, news, articles, people profiles, products, recipes, reviews, services, ads … and almost anything else and Google will add it to a big searchable database. From the Google Blog:
Today we’re excited to announce Google Base, an extension of our existing content collection efforts like web crawl, Google Sitemaps, Google Print and Google Video. Google Base enables content owners to easily make their information searchable online. Anyone, from large companies to website owners and individuals, can use it to submit their content in the form of data items. We’ll host the items and make them searchable for free.
So to sum it up, Google Base is Google’s last attempt in creating an online database of easily searchable, structured information.
