The time has come, OS X Code (r,s) releases a first OS X application, Folder Clean-Up! So what does it do? The app is very similar to Chaos Antidote I’ve shown earlier on this blog. However, there are two main differences, it’s free and you just have to drop the messy folder you want to clean-up over the app and all files and folders inside will be moved into new folders based on the filetype. Additionally you can define files that shouldn’t be moved. A great way to clean-up desktop clutter or all the other mess you may find in one of your folders. Read the readme that comes with the download for more information.
The app was created with Platypus based on a PHP script I’ve written. As soon as I have some free time, I’ll write you a tutorial how to do such an application … and there are some other cool little apps planned.

Great little app you’ve written here! I love how it works so easily.
One feature request for the next build
If there was a way to designate how you want the folders to be named in the folder clean-up settings file, that’d be great. Specifically, I’d like the ability to not have “s” appended to the end of each file type.
But, kudos for the app, and thanks for educating me about Platypus! I wasn’t aware of that program.

Good idea. Will add the feature with the next release.

how about a guide to the settings? or make a few simple settings available via preferences, i just look at the settings now and think “what on earth?!?” this program is very handy, but i’d love to be able to set it to go 1 folder down or 2 etc, if file names are an issue perhaps just put them in a folder ready for the user to sort out

Did you read the readme? There’s an example of how to add a file you want to exclude from cleaning up. Oh and about your folder wish … I don’t think that’s a good idea. Lets say you have a folder with a music album, some mp3 files, some m3u files and an album picture, if I would sort those files into seperate folders, that would’nt be a good idea.

I put my mail applicatiion folder and my itune appllication folder into folder cleanup 1.0 and now I can’t find either application. Can I undo this or do you have any idea where they could be now?
