Simplicity is currently getting more and more acceptance in a variety of different industries and web applications. Mark Hurst collected some nice links that nicely illustrate this “new” trend. From Google’s homepage, Philips major simplicity initiative, Citibank’s new “Simplicity” card to the differences between Apple and Microsoft products.
It seems, though, that simplicity is having a kind of “media moment” in the wider media and on the Web. Consider several examples:
The cover story of Fast Company this month is “The Beauty of Simplicity,” featuring a quote from (past Gel speaker) Marissa Mayer: “Google is lke a Swiss Army knife, closed. It’s simple, you can slip it in your pocket, but it’s got the great doodad when you need it.”
This should be nothing new for us Mac users and developers, but maybe a reminder once in a while that simplicity is something very important can’t hurt.
