Personally I was never a big fan of computer based DJ’ing, auto-sync features and all that high-tech stuff. Maybe that’s surprising for the regular readers of my blog, but when it comes to DJ’ing the nerd/geek in me gets silenced out by my love for the human imperfection in live club mixing. Anyway, I gave that part in me some Valium and will now post about one of those software products where even the most untalented person can become a DJ.
It’s an open source app by the name Mixxx. Mixxx reads most popular sound formats, including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Wave and Aiff. Just drag your music over the app, select two songs and start mixing. The tool has a nice and clean interface and while it was made for professional and semi-professional users, I’m sure even beginners will be able to use this tool. Speaking about professionals, Mixxx supports many DJ input controllers, so you don’t have to use your mouse to cross-fade. It’s definitely a great tool and even if you don’t want to be a “Nerd DJ”, it’s definitely cheaper as two Technics turntables and tons of Vinyl, so at least give it a try if you’ve always wanted to become a DJ, but never had enough money or time.
